The mountain range is located between the regions of L’Alcoià, El Comtat and la Vall d’Albaida. The peak of Montcabrer becomes the highest point of the sierra at 1390 meters, being the third one in the province of Alicante.
Among the most characteristic places are the castles of Barxell, Cocentaina, Banyeres de Mariola, Vinalopó, del Convento or la Torreta de Agres, while the sites of Salt in Alcoy, the Cova de la Sarsa in Bocairent and the Cova de Bolumini in Alfafara prove the human presence since time immemorial.
The Cova de Bolumini is located in ‘l’Alt de la Cova’ on the slopes of the Barranc del Cantal de la Vila. It has an entrance about 15 metres high and faces west, forming a large shelter about 30 metres deep.
It is a site from the Neolithic period and where remains of the Iberian settlement can be found.
The Cova de Bolumini can be accessed from various points, and it is common to do so from the Font de Mariola recreational area in the municipality of Bocairent.
