Francesc Colomer meets with representatives of the group to publicize their work and initiate a partnership
The regional secretary of Tourism, Francesc Colomer, meets with representatives of l’association Serra Mariola to publicize their work and initiate a partnership to improve the position of municipalities and members in tourism enterprises and the development tourist measures and boost the landscape and territory.
Francesc Colomer stated that “The Valencia Tourism Agency will provide technical and professional to value the resources available to members of this association support locations linked to the environment, cultural heritage, domestic tourism, gastronomy and parties”. Likewise, the Regional Secretary of Tourism added that the result of the meeting “has been established to create a joint commission work and a clear roadmap for the development of the territory”.
L’association Serra Mariola is an independent inter-associative group that integrates the municipalities of Agres, Alcoy, Alfafara, Banyeres de Mariola, Bocairent, Cocentaina, Muro, Benámer (Muro) Nunez Cela (Muro) Turballos (Muro), Campus UPV Alcoi and tourism industry. This group focuses its activities especially in the territory between the natural parks of the Sierra de Mariola and Font Roja and neighboring areas.
Alcoi opens routes with a tour around La Font Roja
“Around the Mariola”, the guided tours programme organized by Serra Mariola Association, will return next Sunday, October 11, with third edition dedicated to hiking. Alcoy will start the seven pathways for some of the most emblematic places of the natural park that they also visit Alfafara Bocairent, Banyeres de Mariola, Cocentaina, Agres and Muro during next weeks until November 29th. One initiative which attracted more than 350 participants in the six routes scheduled last spring.
Tours are tailored to all people with low and medium difficulty tours and distances from two to eleven kilometres. In all cases, pre-registration is required and free, it can be done by e-mail (email@example.com), in the Town Hall of Alfafara or the tourist offices of Agres, Alcoi, Banyeres de Mariola, Bocairent, Cocentaina or Muro.
The first release of “Around to Mariola” consist of a walk around the Natural Park of La Font Roja. The route will start at 11.00 h in front of the center ‘Font Roja Natura’. The program of visits will continue in Alfafara, October 18, with the route to the Cave Bolumini, a site of the Neolithic period where you can find remains of the Iberian settlement.
Next Sunday, Bocairent open with a cultural route through the medieval quarter, the Covetes of the Moors and heritage. In November, Banyeres de Mariola who will start the hiking and cultural visits with an explanatory route on the mushroom and its different varieties and Cocentaina, November 15, offered a route from the Count’s Palace, will reach the mountain retreat of Foietes , passing landmarks such as the site of the chapel of Santa Barbara, Area climbing Mas de la Peña culminating with a visit inside the castle
On November 22, Agres proposes visit caves. Muro, time oil’, on November 29, will close the route edition of this initiative of the association and has been well received so far.
The Hermitage of St. Barbara and the Castle retroactive the participants to the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries
Amazing views and historical monuments are the main attractions of the last route programmed within the cycle of guided tours “Around the Mariola”. So, this Sunday, May 17th, the participants in “A tour around the History of Cocentaina” will ascend the path that connects the hermitage of St. Barbara with the Castle enjoying spectacular views of the Mariola Mountain. Furthermore, the two buildings are part of the final settlement of Christians in the area produced between the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries. The route will start at 10.30 pm from the parking of the oratory.
The inscription to participated in the tour, about two hours, is free and can be formalized in the tourist offices of Agres, Alcoi, Banyeres de Mariola, Bocairent, Cocentaina and Muro; the Town Hall of Alfafara and by e-mail (firstname.lastname@example.org) although all places available are sold out now. This visit will serve to close the spring edition of “Around the Mariola” even though the Agres route will be rescheduled after being postponed.
Workers’ housing, hills, mills, steam boilers, chimneys and, above all, different examples of plants from different periods are the elements that will go all over the route dedicated to the industrial heritage of Alcoi inside “Around the Mariola” programme. The urban itinerary of next Sunday, May 10th, will depart from the tourist office (located in the Spain Square) at 10.00 pm and it also includes other building linked to the industrialization process of the city as the Industrial School, the old headquarter of the Bank of Spain or the House of the “Bolla” (an old textile tax). Thus, the program of the Serra Mariola Association show the legacy of economic development based on industry, especially textile but also metal and paper, which emerged in the fifteenth century in Molinar area thanks to the skilful use of hydropower generated by a territory conditioned by the existence of small water course.

Bocairent recover next Sunday, May 3rd, the route integrated in the third edition of “Around the Mariola” that was postponed on March 21st because of weather reasons. The registration is free and can be formalized in the tourist offices of Agres, Alcoi, Banyeres de Mariola, Bocairent, Cocentaina and Muro; at the Town Hall of Alfafara or by the e-mail address firstname.lastname@example.org.
The tour around Bocairent will depart at 10.30 h from the Town Hall Square and has the support of the tourist services company Lasaria that is also part of the Serra Mariola Association. The first stop will be the St. Christ Bridge with its gothic arch and the second will be the Behind the Village one, built in the sixteenth century and considered as the highest of the Kingdom of Valencia then. Subsequently, the “Around the Mariola” participants will behold the most recent examples as Riberet or St. Blai Bridges, among others. Overall, the visit will see how the Bocairent inhabitants have created different infrastructures over time to overtake its complex terrain and ensure the movement of people, merchandises and water.
“Around the Mariola” prepare its third route next Sunday, April 26th, in Alfafara. Thus, the programme of guided tours will target as a destination the late Roman tombs located near Pou Homestead. To this point, the attendances will arrive after starting from the Town Hall at 10.00 pm in a distance of approximately one hour by easy roads and walking trails.

The initiative by Serra Mariola Association will continue next weekend, May 2nd and 3rd, with double routes in Agres and Bocairent.
The archaeological site, key for understanding prehistoric hunters, is the destination on proposal of Muro
The participant in the second route of “Around the Mariola” will make a trip back in time next Sunday, April 19th, with the proposal prepared by the town of Muro. Thus, the Beneito Cave will be the destination of the route that will depart at 9.30 am from the Uncle Pep Monument (on Valencia Av.). The archaeological site is recognized as one of the most important in the Land of Valencia to the Palaeolithic because it has remains of the middle period of this era and offers and extraordinary sequence of Upper Palaeolithic which provides numerous details about the way of life of prehistoric hunters.
Elisa Doménech, municipal archaeologist and director of excavations, will guide attendees of the proposal that can register for free at the tourist offices of Agres, Alcoi, Banyeres de Mariola, Bocairent, Cocentaina or Muro; in the Town Hall of Alfafara, or by email (firstname.lastname@example.org). The program of visits organized by Serra Mariola Association will maintain historical theme next week with the planned route in Alfafara for April 26th focused on discovering the tombs of the late Roman Period located in the Pou Homestead.
The third edition of programme of guided tours “Around the Mariola” will stop next Sunday, April 12th, in Banyeres de Mariola to get into the preparations of the Moors and Christians in honour of St. George to be held on the day 21st. Thus, the itinerary will depart at 11.00 am from the tourist office to go into the streets and squares where the different acts are held; later, the arrival at the Castle will serve to know more details about the feast thanks to the festive museum located inside of it, but not only this because the parliaments take place there. Finally, the participants in the route will appreciate the atmosphere of the “filaes” with a tour inside a “maset”.

This route will serve to open the programme after the postponement of the planned in Bocairent on March 21st due to weather reasons which led to rearrange the schedule of tours that will continue with a visit to the archaeological site of Beneito Cave in Muro on April 19th.
